Cancer: Fighting in Fundraising
What is cancer?
Cancer is so much more than a disease. It's the one word that can make anyone shudder. It’s the thing that takes our family & friends away from us. It's pain. It's suffering. It's hopelessness. It's hair loss. It's the loss of identity. It's so many horrible things... The worst, is that it has no cure.

When I was a kid, my
grandmother was an advocate for walking in the Race for The Cure walks in
Detroit. Walking to raise funds & awareness in the fight against cancer.
The streets of Detroit would be closed during the morning, so that walkers
could line the streets in unity against this terrible awful disease. Some would
run, but most would walk. There were bands and entertainment set up along the
way, to encourage walkers to keep going, to reach the end! It was magical. Even
as a child, I felt as though I was a part of something, and I looked forward to
doing that annually with my grandma.
When I started working at my current workplace, they also were
highly involved with the American Cancer Society! They walked every year in
Detroit, in the Fight Against Breast Cancer. I was very excited, and happy to
be a part of team that did so much more than just the normal 9-5 business. This
company engages employee’s to be a part of the community. In the world that we
live in, I love this. I think that being engaged in the community is only going
to further unite us; We Stand Together. <3
I have been on our Community Captain team for about six years now.
I really strive to push myself to fundraise or at least spread awareness about
The American Cancer Society, or facts that I have learned about Breast Cancer,
as often as I can.
For instance, did you know that just a $10 donation can provide a
patient going through treatment a ride, to and from, that treatment? This would
be at no cost to them. Your donation, just helped someone get treatment. YOU
are now a part of that journey with them, cheering them on to keep going, keep
pushing, and kick cancer in the behind!
There are so many things that The American Cancer Society does as
whole. Yes, this walk that I participate in is mostly geared towards breast
cancer.. However, this non-profit organization provides so many different tools,
help, and support to everyone. It’s not only for patients. It’s also for
friends, family, and volunteers that needs the guidance and support as well.
They are always available too! 24/7, 365 days out of the year.
Currently, I am $150.00 away from my goal. I know that there is so
much chaos in the world right now…and that asking for a donation right now
towards this does not seem as important as hurricane relief, the shooting in
las vegas, or even other things that are happening in today’s world. But if you
have it in you, and are able to donate even $5.00 to my page, I would be so
grateful.
I also am going to include the link and phone number to the
American Cancer Society page. There are tons of things to look over and see
there, and you can always call for support.

Thank you for your support & for reading today. Please share this page, or my link, to continue to raise awareness!
Did I mention that I PINK out on the day of the walk!? :) Come be pink with me! :)
